Getting set up

Signing up

How to start a Footer365 trial, choose a term, name your three contacts and get the Microsoft 365 setup link.

Last checked against Footer365 on 20 October 2026

Signing up takes about five minutes. At the end you have a Footer365 account, a free trial that starts when Microsoft 365 is connected, and a setup link on its way to the person who will connect your Microsoft 365 organisation.

Before you start

  • Use your work account. Footer365 signs you in with Microsoft. A personal Microsoft account (such as an outlook.com address) cannot be used, because it does not belong to an organisation.
  • You do not need to be an administrator to sign up. You do need a Microsoft 365 Global Administrator to finish the setup afterwards. If that is not you, have their name and email address ready.
  • You do not enter a number of users. Footer365 counts your mailboxes from your Microsoft 365 directory when you connect it, and you are charged for the mailboxes you actually have. A 12, 24 or 36-month term commits to the user mailboxes counted on the day it starts, and again each time it renews.

Step by step

  1. Go to Start your free trial and select Continue with Microsoft. Sign in with your work account.
  2. On Choose your term, choose a Billing cycle. There is nothing else to choose: Footer365 is one product, and every feature is included, from signatures, rules and the Outlook add-in to banner campaigns, A/B tests and click analytics. 12-month term, 24-month term and 36-month term give you a lower rate in return for committing to your mailboxes for that many months. Monthly, no term costs a little more but has no commitment. All are invoiced monthly. The price per user is shown on the page and updates as you change your choices. Select Continue.
  3. On Who should we contact?, fill in the three contacts (see below) and select Continue.
  4. On Billing details, enter your registered company name, primary domain, data region and billing address, and your company number if your organisation has one. The registered address is the billing address is ticked; untick it and enter your registered address if it is different. If your company is VAT registered, turn on This company is VAT registered and enter your VAT number. Select Review.
  5. On Review and confirm, check the summary and read the trial, cancellation and refund terms. Below them are the agreements your organisation accepts: each one is listed with its version, and opens or downloads as a PDF. Tick the box to agree on your organisation's behalf, then select Agree and create account.

The three contacts

Each email Footer365 sends goes to the person who needs it, so you are asked for three contacts. Use the switches if one person covers more than one role.

Contact Receives
Account owner (you) Welcome and status emails, and renewal notices for a 12, 24 or 36-month term.
Accounts contact Invoices, receipts, renewal and card-expiry notices. Same as owner is on by default.
Technical contact The Microsoft 365 setup link. Usually your IT lead or Global Administrator. Choose Same as owner, Same as accounts or Someone else. Same as accounts is offered only when the accounts contact is not the owner.

The technical contact should be a Global Administrator of your Microsoft 365 organisation, because only they can complete the setup, and the page reminds you of this above the technical contact. If that is not you, enter a colleague who is. All three contacts must use addresses at your organisation's own domain, and the primary domain on the billing step must be that domain.

Adding a payment card

A card is optional during the trial. Tick Add a payment card now (optional) on the billing step if you want to add one straight away: you are taken to our payment provider's secure card page and nothing is charged. Otherwise your accounts contact can add a card later in the portal, under Billing, then Payment method. If no card is on file when the trial ends, signatures pause until one is added. See Adding or changing your payment card.

What happens next

The confirmation page shows a copy of the email sent to your technical contact, with the subject "Action needed: connect (your organisation) to Footer365". It contains the setup link. If you are the technical contact yourself, select Open the setup link now to carry straight on.

Your technical contact then follows Connecting Microsoft 365.

Your record of what you agreed

When you agree, Footer365 records which version of each document you accepted, when, and who you are as Microsoft signed you in, with your organisation's name, company number and addresses as you entered them. A copy is emailed to you and to your account owner and accounts contacts, with every document attached as one PDF. Keep it with your contract records.

If a document has a new version waiting to take effect when you sign up, both versions are listed, with the date the new one starts, and you accept both.

Good to know

  • The trial length is shown on the first signup page. The trial starts when a Global Administrator gives admin consent, not when you sign up. Nothing is charged during it, and if you cancel before it ends you pay nothing. About the free trial
  • Connect within 7 days. A signup that is not connected to Microsoft 365 within 7 days is removed, without using your free trial. Footer365 sends a reminder with the setup link 3 days before.
  • One trial per organisation. If your organisation has used Footer365 before, Review and confirm says Your organisation has used Footer365 before. above the agreements, and asks you to read them again, as they may have changed since they were last accepted. You can still sign up, but the confirmation page says No free trial this time. Your subscription starts once Microsoft 365 is connected and your user mailboxes are counted. Depending on your account, it then either waits for a payment card to be added in the portal (signatures are not added until then), or starts straight away.
  • Already a customer? If your organisation already has a Footer365 account, the signup page says You already have an account and offers a link to the customer portal instead of a second trial.
  • Coming back after cancelling? If your subscription has ended and your account has not been deleted yet, the signup page starts with Welcome back. Completing it brings your account back, with your templates, rules, campaigns and directory as you left them, and Footer365 bills you directly. There is no second free trial. Only a Global Administrator can complete it, and any unpaid Footer365 invoices must be settled first. You are then taken to the setup wizard, to set mail flow up again if your organisation uses it. See "Coming back" in Cancel your subscription.
  • Came from the free signature generator? If you started your trial from the email signature generator on the Footer365 website, the signup page says Your signature design is coming with you. When you create your account, the layout and colour you chose become your first signature template, filled in for each person from Microsoft 365 once it is connected. Only the layout and colour are carried over: nothing you typed into the generator is sent to Footer365. As with any template, it is not added to anyone's mail until a signature rule uses it. If your organisation already has a template, or the layout is no longer offered on the website, no template is created.
  • Small teams. The advertised rate applies from the number of mailboxes shown on the term step. Below that, Footer365 is still available, with every feature, at a slightly higher rate per user that falls with every mailbox you add.
  • EU customers. If your billing country is in the European Union, your VAT number is checked with the EU VIES service before your account is created.
  • Where Footer365 is offered. Footer365 is not offered to organisations in a country under comprehensive UK sanctions, or in a country where Microsoft 365 is not sold. If your billing or registered address is in one, the billing step says so and your account is not created. If you think this is wrong, contact [email protected].
